Dolomites Photo Holiday 2022

Usually, every September I lead photography holidays to the Dolomites in Northern Italy on behalf of Mc2 Photography. COVID of course has disrupted those plans for the last couple of years but at the start of September 2022 I was finally on my way back with fears of having forgotten where to go. As it turns out guiding is much like riding a bicycle and everything clicked into place pretty quickly once out there - even driving on the wrong side of the road.

This year two different itineraries were offered, the adventure and the comfort trips. The adventure itinerary utilises the unbeatable mountain refuges tucked away atop many mountain peaks in the Dolomites. Some are easy to access, others a little more challenging, but they situate you in fantastic places for sunrise and sunset. Much of the work that has gone into planning these trips has been finding the right balance of refuge huts, which ones offer the best view and reward ratio to effort put in.

One of several refuges we stay in with our groups. This one ticks all the boxes for amazing views, isolation, and small family feel to the hut.

The comfort trip was predominantly more valley and hotel based, which still offers world-class views and photographic opportunities; just in a little more style. One refuge was included for good measure, with only a 2 minute walk from the cable car station to refuge door the access couldn’t get any easier.

Cable car station to access one of the Dolomites most popular refuges.

In all, fantastic conditions were enjoyed by both groups. Bad weather is an inevitability when in mountainous areas, but we were pretty lucky only. missing out on 1 sunrise and 1 sunset across both trips. Plans are in place for next year’s visit already and if you’d like any more information please head over to the Mc2 Photography website or get in touch with our team. For now enjoy a few more images from my nearly three-week stint in the mountains.
